The Penn Law Pre-College Academy is a rigorous academic program that gives high school students from around the world the opportunity to experience a law school curriculum from a world-class university. This three-week intensive, live virtual academy provides a well-rounded introduction to the American legal system and how law is practiced in the United States, and also allows students to specialize in one of three specialized fields of law: Business & Entrepreneurship Law, Human Rights & Legal Advocacy, or Entertainment & Sports Law.
To ensure that students remain safe and healthy, Penn Law is dedicated to making our high-quality legal program available this summer in a live-virtual online format. As students convene with Penn Law faculty and a wide range of established practitioners in the legal field to explore the legal issues that are shaping the United States, students and parents can be assured that this will be an exceptional immersive experience. In this new interactive, congenial online environment, this summer’s experience will match the excellence the Penn Law Pre-College Academy has always offered.

Build a Strong Foundation for Future Success
The Pre-College Academy is designed to help students develop and fine-tune the communication, analytical, logical reasoning, and leadership skills essential for future academic and professional success.
Week One & Two:
Students will spend the first two weeks of the academy taking an accelerated first-year law school curriculum, including sessions on such topics as:
Contracts – contract formation, offer and acceptance, consideration, and remedies.
Torts/Liability – legal duties, breach, causation, damages, and product liability.
Constitutional Law – First Amendment rights and Fourth Amendment protections.
Criminal Law – criminal intent, criminal procedure, burdens of proof, and defenses.
Through the study of these doctrinal legal subjects, students will gain an understanding of the American legal system, develop legal reasoning skills, and experience the Socratic Method of dialogue with Penn Law faculty. Students will also hear lectures on the cutting-edge legal issues that are shaping the world today.
Week Three: (choose one specialized area of law)
From start-ups and intellectual property, to negotiating and drafting agreements, students will gain a firm understanding of the specialized legal areas important to the success of the entrepreneur and businesses in general.
Examine the institutions, instruments, and cases that constitute the basis for the key civil, political, and economic issues in contemporary domestic and international human rights, including trafficking in persons, the status of refugees, transitional justice, and gender equality.
Whether interested in working for a sports team, entertainer, or a media company, explore the wide range of legal and business expertise needed to effectively represent clients in these industries, including such topics as intellectual property, licensing, labor and employment law, film and TV production, contracts, and negotiations.
Live Virtual Format
To ensure that students remain safe and healthy as the COVID-19 pandemic continues, the 2021 Pre-College Academy will be offered in a live virtual (online) format.
Penn Law prides itself on offering students of all ages and backgrounds a superior legal education and experience in a collaborative and stimulating environment. The live virtual format is designed to foster interaction and cross-disciplinary discussion to maximize students’ learning experience.
- The Pre-College Academy will take place on Penn Law’s Zoom platform.
- There will be two-to-three interactive sessions and group discussions each day. Breaks will also be scheduled intermittently.
- Course materials and pre-recorded sessions will be available to help students prepare for the program.

Admissions to the Pre-College Academy is selective and based on a record of academic achievement and leadership. Applications are evaluated on a rolling basis and admissions decisions are made by Penn Law.
The specialized area of law for Week Three (Entrepreneurship & Business Law, Human Rights Law, or Sports & Entertainment Law) is expected to be chosen upon applying for the program.
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and space is limited, so we encourage all applicants to apply as early as possible.
The program fee for the 2022 Live Virtual offering will be announced October 2021.
