Alumnae Notes

Shelia Bapat L'07: Sheila has recently published a new book, Part of the Family: Nannies, Housekeepers, Caregivers, and the Battle for Domestic Workers' Rights and will be celebrating its launch with with wine and, together with the National Domestic Workers' Alliance, a discussion of workers rights, on June 17 at the Institute for Policy Studies in DC (starting at 5:30pm, 1112 16th St., NW, Suite 600, Washington, DC 20036).

Linda Galante L'79: Linda, a partner in Stradley Ronon's Philadelphia office, was recently honored by Philadelphia's Drueding Center with the St. Kathryn Etchells, CSR, Lifetime Achievement Award, presented in recognition of her unwavering dedication to the Drueding Center, which serves more than 400 homeless and formerly homeless families each year through transitional housing, case management, and a licensed child care center.


Galit Kierkut CAS'91 L'95: Galit was recently named one of the Top 50 Women Lawyers in New Jersey by New Jersey Superlawyers in the New Jersey Monthly Magazine.  She is a Member of Sills Cummis Gross, PC, and the immediate Past President of the New Jersey Women Lawyers Association.

Petra Smutny GL'13:
Petra, a recent LLM graduate serving on the Austrian Court of Appeals in Vienna, spoke last week on gender issues at a workshop in Vietnam sponsored by the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women.  The training workshop focused on the Convention to Eliminate All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), and sought to equip global participants with the skills needed to incorporate gender mainstreaming (the concept of assessing the different implications for both men and women of any planned policy action or legislation) into the legal document drafting process.
