Penn Law Women's Summit!!

Chair, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. With an aim to educate,
inspire, and connect women professionals from across the country and
abroad, we plan to convene what will undoubtedly be the largest
gathering of women in the history of Penn Law!
The Summit will include: keynote speakers, remarks from
our honorees from within and outside of the Penn Law alumnae community,
CLE panels featuring women leaders in law, business, government,
academia, and beyond discussing a wide range of substantive topics and
issues, and a number of fun social and networking opportunities
interspersed throughout (...including an optional group fun run down
Boathouse Row and up and down the Rocky steps at the Philadelphia
Museum of Art - start training now!).
Programming will begin mid-afternoon on Tuesday, March 22 through the
morning of Thursday, March 24. Come catch up with Penn Law
friends and classmates, pick up CLE credits, and discuss the latest in
your area of practice or interest - whether you're currently working,
in transition, or retired, there's something for everyone and much to
be learned from our inspiring speakers, panelists, and fellow
attendees...don't miss out! And take advantage of our early bird

Alumnae Notes
Honorable Alice Dubow
L'84
Judge Dubow, who served on the Court of Common Pleas of Philadelphia
since 2007, was recently elected to the Pennsylvania Superior Court in
November, following in the footsteps of her mother, Judge Phyllis
Beck. "Personally, this is a huge landmark for me and my
family, and also for women in Pennsylvania," Judge Dubow said
Tuesday night. "My mother was the first woman ever elected to
Superior Court, in 1983. It's just wonderful that 30 years later the
next generation of Beck women is going to serve on the Superior

Sarah Hughes L'18
Hughes, the 2002 Olympic Figure Skating Champion in Salt Lake City,
member of the Board of Trustees for the Women's Sports Foundation, and
current Penn Law 1L student, discusses how her experience as a women in
athletics influenced her decision to attend law school. Read more here.
Melissa B. Jacoby
L'94
Jacoby, who is the Graham Kenan
Professor of Law at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, recently received two
awards for her research: The Grant Gilmore Award from the American
College of Commercial Finance Lawyers, and the Chadbourn Award from the
University of North Carolina School of Law.
Lucinda Jesson
L'83
Jesson, who most recently served as Commissioner of Minnesota's
Department of Human Services, was named by Minnesota Governor Mark
Dayton to the Minnesota State Court of Appeals. Prior to her
appointment as DHS Commissioner, Jesson was a law professor at Hamline
University, a deputy Hennepin County attorney, and deputy attorney

Claudia Johnson
L'97
Johnson, who is ProBono.net's Program Manager of Law Help Interactive,
was recently interviewed by a former ProBono.net intern and Columbia
University student on the union between technology innovation in public
interest practice and access to justice. Read more here.
Gabriella Levin
L'06
Levin was named Partner with Gibson Dunn & Crutcher. Residing in
the firm's New York office, Levin works in the Securities Litigation
and Labor & Employment Litigation practice group. Levin's practice
focuses on representing corporate clients in securities class actions,
shareholder derivative litigation, SOX and Dodd-Frank whistleblower
litigation, and employment litigation.
Priscilla (Sally)
Mattison L'97
Mattison wrote an article entitled "Licensing Music for
Audio-Visual Uses" which was published in the Fall 2015 issue of
the Journal of the
International Alliance for Women in Music. She also
participated on a panel entitled "Law: Intellectual Property" at
Lebanon Valley College's 11th Annual VALE Media Industries
Conference. Sally is Of Counsel to Bernard M. Resnick, Esq.
Suzanne Mayes L'91
The Business Journals
featured Mayes in a recent article "It's Still a Rarity to be a
Female Executive in This City", which examines the low percentage
of female leaders among greater Philadelphia corporations. Mayes is a
member of Cozen O'Connor's Business Law Department and Chair of the
firm's Public and Project Finance Group. Read more here.
The Honorable
Deborah T. Poritz L'77
Poritz was named Monmouth University's Public Servant in Residence for
the 2015-2016 academic school year. Poritz was New Jersey's
First Woman Chief Justice and Attorney General, and was also the first
woman to serve as New Jersey's governor's Chief Counsel in 1989.
Nicolle Strand
L'13
Strand, who graduated from Penn Law with a JD/MBE in bioethics, is
currently working as a research analyst at the Presidential Commission
for the Study of Bioethical Issues. Read more here.
Vanessa Yearick
L'08
Yearick joined Williams Mullen as a Senior Associate in the firm's
Business and Corporate practice in Virginia Beach. Yearick joins
Williams Mullen after seven years as a Corporate Finance Associate at
Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP in New York.

Rent the Runway is partnering with UBS's philanthropic initiative,
Elevating Entrepreneurs, to launch a competition called Project
Entrepreneur. Project Entrepreneur aims to help women who are in the
early stages of launching a business by equipping them with the tools,
advice, and investments they need to thrive in the marketplace.
