Trademark Filing Guides

« Back to DIPTC home

The Detkin Intellectual Property and Technology Legal Clinic provides two free to use trademark filing guides. These guides are meant to help inform users who are in the process of considering whether to file a federal trademark application with the USPTO.

The first guide — Trademark Decision Tree Guide — provides information to help you think about whether filing a trademark application might be useful, as well as informing you about various aspects of trademark filing.

The second guide — USPTO Application Guide — instructs you on the information you need to gather before filing and annotates a model trademark application.

After viewing both guides, if you feel that your trademark strategy is more complex than can be addressed by either guide, we recommend that you seek counsel. You may access the guides by clicking “I agree” below.

I understand that using the Trademark Decision Tree Guide and/or the USPTO Application Guide does not create an attorney-client relationship between the Detkin IP Clinic and me, and the content of these guides does not constitute legal advice.
