Adam Garnick L’21 offers perspective on Department of Homeland Security v. Thuraissigiam

Adam Garnick L’21 is a 2L from Philadelphia and earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 2015. He is the current co-director of the Penn Law Immigrant Rights Project (PLIRP).

“It is a bad day when the Court accepts the troubling notion that asylum seekers — already among the country’s most vulnerable population — do not deserve the most basic due process. By eliminating many asylum seekers’ only opportunity for meaningful judicial review, the Court leaves the executive branch unchecked in an asylum process already riddled with gross injustice and government abuse. The Court’s decision will almost certainly lead to more deportations of asylum seekers with meritorious claims who face the gravest consequences upon their forced return.” - Adam Garnick L’21
