The Journal of International Law is one of the top international law journals in the world

The Journal of International Law (JIL) is widely recognized as one of the top international law journals in the world and is the oldest of all the topically focused journals at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School. JIL regularly publishes the scholarship of professor of various disciplines, government officials, and legal practitioners. The articles select provide insight and analysis on the most pressing issues in international law today, especially as a leading journal of international business and economic law.

Its rich history dates back to 1978, when it was printed as the University of Pennsylvania Journal of Comparative Corporate Law and Securities Regulation. Past collaborations include those with the Institute for Law and Economics, the American Society of International Law, and the U.S. Court of International Trade.

The subject matter of JIL scholarship is broad, ranging from international economic law to international human rights and environmental regulation. Other recent topics includes whether the United States’ withdrawal from the Paris Agreement on Climate Change passes the cost-benefit analysis test, the myth of China’s open market reforms and the World Trade Organization, and investor rights in Indian private equity.

In addition to scholarship, JIL sponsors an annual symposium. Recent symposia include those on international space law, international investment law, and societies in transition.
