Study Break Recipes

Whether to take a break from a study session, celebrate the end of the semester, or to enjoy during the winter break, give these recipes a whirl!

Molasses Cookies - submitted by Library Director Amanda Runyon
Makes 2.5 dozen

3/4 cup shortening (Crisco), softened
1 cup brown sugar, packed (dark brown sugar best)
1 egg
1/4 cup molasses (blackstrap molasses best)
2 1/4 cups flour
2 teaspoons soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cloves
1 teaspoon ginger
Granulated sugar for dipping
Also good with 1/2 cup golden raisins (softened in boiling water)

Mix shortening, sugar, egg, and molasses thoroughly. Add flour and the dry ingredients. Heat oven to 375.. Roll dough in balls and dip tops in sugar. Place dough balls sugared side up, 3 inches apart. Sprinkle with water. Bake 10 to 12 min just until set but not hard.

Ruth Bader Ginger Cocktail
Makes 2 servings

4-6 ice cubes
3 ounces dark rum
1 ounce ginger liqueur or brandy
2 teaspoons orange juice
2-3 pinches ground cardamom
2 slices of orange
2 mint leaves, slightly crushed

Place 2-3 ice cubes in each of 2 glasses. Place the rum, brandy, orange juice and cardamom in a cocktail shaker or glass jar. Shake vigorously and pour equal amounts in the two glasses. Twist the orange slices slightly to extract a few drops more of orange juice into the liquid, then place the slice on the rim of the each glass. Place one slightly crushed mint leaf in each glass, stir and serve.

ICYMI Finals Survival Tips: Biddle Pets Edition

Last May, Biddle staff created a video on surviving final exams, featuring our furry family members. The video may not be new, but the message still applies and the advice is timeless, so if you missed the video the first time around, check it out!

If you find you have some extra time over the winter break and want a retreat from all things ‘law’ these library resources may help.

And if you didn’t have time to sign up for free news accounts through the library (WSJ, NYT, FT.com, and Washington Post), you can register over the break. Visit the library’s FAQ for details.
