American Association for Justice’s Student Trial Advocacy Competition

March 08, 2021

Gregory Burton L ’22, Jarett Rovner L ’22, Dimitri Villegas L ’22, and Emerson Womble L ’23, won second place in the regional round of the American Association for Justice’s Student Trial Advocacy Competition (“STAC”).

The Law School’s advocates argued both the Plaintiff and Defense sides of a negligence action and were undefeated through the first four rounds of competition. Penn ultimately finished as Regional Finalists in a close 2-1 split decision, placing them ahead of fourteen teams from across the Eastern Region. Bob Englert, who advises the Law School’s Mock Trial Association, served as coach for the competition.

All four advocates are previous winners of the 1L Intramural Mock Trial tournament at the Law School. Gregory, Jarett, and Dimitri competed together when they won in 2020 and Emerson competed with the reigning champions last month.
