Third-Year Law Students Look Back

April 09, 2019

Over the past three years, what has been your favorite class at Penn Law?

“I have had a few favorite classes at the law school. Penn Law has world-class professors who, beyond being experts in their field, care tremendously about teaching law students and molding future leaders in the profession. It’s a tie between two classes for my favorite: Constitutional Law during 1L with Professor Mitchell Berman and Evidence during the fall of my 3L year with Shanin Specter. Both classes were classic law school academic experiences in that the material was doctrinally robust and intellectually stimulating.” – Ebenezer “Eb” Gyasi, 3L

“My favorite class was working with the Interdisciplinary Child Advocacy Clinic. The clinic allowed me to work directly with clients under the close supervision of a great professor. Working with the clinic not only provided me with a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience in the legal field, but it also allowed me to gain a deeper understanding and awareness of myself.” -  Liz John, 3L

“I took securities regulation with Jill Fisch, and it was one of the most challenging but most rewarding classes.  I found the content extremely interesting, and Professor Fisch taught it in a way that helped me understand how I would be applying the securities laws when practicing law after graduation.” – Allie Munson, 3L

“My favorite class at Penn Law was Contract Drafting with Professor Veronica Nunn. This experiential class was my favorite because it involved learning through the practice of drafting various types of contract agreements for clients, which will be a valuable skill to have once I leave Penn. I also enjoyed being taught by an actual law firm Partner who drafts contracts for clients on a daily basis.” – Nicky Stracar, 3L

During your time at Penn Law, what has been your favorite memory?

“My favorite memory at Penn Law is participating in Law v. Wharton Fight Night as a 1L fighter. The excitement and support from all my law school friends and classmates before, during, and after the fight made it an unforgettable experience.” – Nicky Stracar, 3L

“This is another hard question because there are honestly too many favorite memories to choose from. From my time as a representative on student government, to educational and fun trips to Israel and Japan in my 1L and 2L years respectively, to intermural sports and teaching constitutional law in West Philly as part of the Youth Education Project, to our acapella concert last year, there is a lot to choose from. I count it all as joy and a tremendous blessing.” – Ebenezer “Eb” Gyasi, 3L

“My best memory has been getting the opportunity to be a Littleton Fellow.  I feel really grateful to spend this year as a mentor and teacher to a group of awesome 1L students.  My own Fellow and the LPS staff were such a great support system to me as a 1L, so it’s been really rewarding to be a part of the program as a 3L.” – Allie Munson, 3L

“It’s hard for me to pick one favorite memory because I’ve loved each and every day at Penn Law. I know I’ll look back and remember the hours on end I’d hang out in the Clock with my friends—either studying, catching up, or goofing off. Every day at Penn Law is accompanied by laughter.” – Liz John, 3L

What will you miss the most about Penn Law?

“How it feels like home. After every break, there is so much love, excitement, and joy I feel walking into school, surrounded by my friends again. It’s moments like those that make Penn Law really feel like home.” – Liz John, 3L

“I’ve been really fortunate that I have met some of my closest friends at Penn.  That’s definitely not uncommon here, but I will really miss getting to see all the people I have gotten close with every day.” – Allie Munson, 3L

“I will definitely miss the camaraderie among students. I loved my time at Penn mainly because of the amazing people around me and I have met some of my best friends over the last three years here. So, I will certainly miss being around so many fun, caring, and kind people all the time.” – Nicky Stracar, 3L

“Unequivocally, the amazing people I have been fortunate to interact with over the past three years. This includes everyone from the wonderful friends I have made over the years who span the entire country, to our incredible professors and dedicated staff members, our awesome admissions and financial aid deans, all the way up to our Dean of the Law School, Ted Ruger with whom I share an alma mater, Williams College. Penn Law’s people are the lifeblood of the institution. I will miss them all very dearly.” – Ebenezer “Eb” Gyasi, 3L
