Emily Kyle L’20

Emily is passionate about defending the rights of migrants and expanding access to representation for individuals in removal proceedings. Following graduation, Emily will advocate for migrants by representing detained immigrants in their immigration court proceedings. Emily graduated summa cum laude from the University of California, Los Angeles with a B.A. in English and Psychology. Emily’s experience studying abroad in Italy sparked her passion for exploring new cultures and following graduation she traveled to rural Japan and worked as an English teacher. Her experiences living and working in the markedly homogeneous society of Japan taught her to fully embrace the value of diversity within our own society and the importance of protecting the rights of United States’ immigrants. At Penn Law, Emily is a Levy Scholar and a student leader in the pro bono community, embracing roles including Legal Director for the International Refugee Assistance Project and Research Director for the Penn Law Immigrant Rights Project. She has also been actively involved as a student attorney with the Transnational Legal Clinic and the Interdisciplinary Child Advocacy Clinic. Emily spent her 1L summer as an intern with the Refugee and Migrant Rights Programme at Lawyers for Human Rights in Pretoria, South Africa, and her 2L summer as an intern with the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project in Tacoma, Washington.
