Valerie Snow L’20

Valerie came to Penn Law to pursue a career in Philadelphia’s public interest community, specifically in civil legal services. After graduating with the Class of 2020, Valerie will realize that goal by working at the SeniorLAW Center in Philadelphia. Thanks to a two-year Public Interest Law Fellowship awarded by the Independence Foundation, Valerie will lead a guardianship defense project to protect the legal rights of low-income seniors in guardianship proceedings and to advocate for policy reforms.

At Penn Law, Valerie co-directs the Criminal Record Expungement Project and serves as the Production Editor for the Journal of Law and Social Change. In addition, she has participated in both the Civil Practice Clinic and the Interdisciplinary Child Advocacy Clinic. During her two summers in law school, Valerie focused on SSI work at Community Legal Services and employment discrimination matters at the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission. She also volunteered inside an immigrant detention facility in Texas, where she helped prepare mothers for credible fear asylum interviews.

Before law school, Valerie worked as a paralegal in small law firms. She spent one year focusing on plaintiff-side international human rights litigation and two years working as an immigration paralegal. Valerie also volunteered with the ACLU of Pennsylvania.

Valerie graduated summa cum laude from Haverford College with a B.A. in Political Science and an interdisciplinary concentration in Peace, Justice & Human Rights. In her free time, Valerie enjoys traveling, baking, running, crocheting blankets, and playing accordion and classical piano. She is originally from northern New Jersey.
