Sanjay Jolly L’21

Sanjay’s professional focus is on movement lawyering, particularly in the area of media and communications. As a joint degree candidate with the Annenberg School for Communication, he combines his legal education with doctoral training in political economy, media history, and information theory. Prior to coming to the University of Pennsylvania, he was a Fulbright Scholar based in Ecuador, where he studied the implementation of media reform laws in South America. He has been active as a maker and proponent of independent media in both the U.S. and Latin America, including as policy director of the Prometheus Radio Project in Philadelphia.

At Penn Law, Sanjay co-founded Law Students for a Democratic Society and serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Law and Social Change. In addition, he is a graduate fellow at the Annenberg School’s Center for Media, Inequality, and Change and a proud member of GET-UP, Penn’s graduate-worker union. Sanjay spent his 1L summer as a Center for Technology, Innovation & Competition Summer Public Interest Fellow at Public Knowledge, a Washington DC public interest organization promoting freedom of expression, an open internet, and digital access, and his 2L summer at the American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan. He grew up outside of Detroit, Michigan and is a graduate of the University of Michigan’s Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy.
