Falak Shahid L’22

Falak Shahid is a New Jersey native pursuing a JD at Penn Law. She graduated summa cum laude from Rutgers University-New Brunswick where she majored in Political Science and Women and Gender Studies. She has interned with the Office of the Secretary of State of New Jersey in the Division of Elections during the Midterm elections of 2018, the Permanent Mission of Pakistan to the United Nations working closely with the Ambassador, and at the Center for American Women and Politics organizing its research and annual programming. 

Falak is passionate about women’s empowerment, during her senior year at Rutgers, she co-founded an after-school girls empowerment program, titled Global Girls, for middle-school aged girls to become more engaged, conscious, and confident leaders. Global Girls focuses on teaching young girls the importance of political participation and awareness. In the future, Falak, would like to expand her work in women’s empowerment in the professional workforce. 

At Penn, Falak is a member of the student advisory board for the Office of Inclusion and Engagement. She serves as a 1L rep for Penn Law Feminists and worked with the International Human Rights Advocates to complete a brief on marital rape as basis for divorce in The Gambia. Falak is guided by an intersectional perspective and hopes to bring forward such concepts to the forefront of her law school experience.
