Lynnewood Shafer L’21

Lynnewood Jeff Shafer II is a 2L at Penn Law. Lynnewood is a graduate of Drexel University, where he studied accountancy and was an active student leader on campus. At Drexel, Lynnewood served as the president of National Association of Black Accountants (NABA), as a student tutor with Beta Alpha Psi, an honors accounting organization, and as a baritone on the Drexel University Gospel Choir.

After graduation Lynnewood worked as a certified public accountant (CPA) at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). In addition to his work at PwC, Lynnewood served as the Director for Professional Education for the Philadelphia Chapter of NABA where he led the PassNow Initiative, an initiative focused on increasing the amount of African American CPAs, as less than 1% of CPAs are African American. Lynnewood also managed the PwC - City Year mentorship program and served on the associate board of City Year, an education nonprofit dedicated to helping students succeed.

As a student at Penn Law, Lynnewood has actively sought to serve his community through clinics and pro bono engagement. Lynnewood worked as a student counselor in the Entrepreneurship Legal Clinic, providing legal advice to minority owned businesses, and as a courtroom advocate to obtain a temporary order of protection for a victim of domestic violence. Lynnewood is also serving as a BLSA outreach mentor, a program that provides mentorship to minority college students who are considering attending law school. In addition to being an alum of the BLSA outreach mentorship program, Lynnewood is also an alum of SEO LAW, an organization committed to increasing the percentage of underrepresented minorities in corporate law.
