Raymond Magsaysay L’22

Raymond Magsaysay is a first-generation American from the Philippines committed to social justice, diversity, and inclusion. He graduated with general and departmental honors from Vassar College with a BA in Sociology and minors in Hispanic Studies and English: Race & Ethnicity. At Vassar, Raymond organized alongside cafeteria workers to improve labor conditions on campus, while also helping incorporate diverse voices in the sociology department’s curricula. In his senior year, Raymond worked for the Dutchess County Public Defender’s Office as he wrote his thesis, which was awarded distinction and focused on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and issues of mass incarceration. 

He is currently a first-year law student at the University of Pennsylvania Law School where he is an inaugural First Generation Professional Fellow and Harry S. Truman Scholar. Prior to law school, he lived in Madrid, Spain, where he was a Fulbright Scholar and Adjunct Professor at IE University. Raymond also obtained a master’s degree in Teaching from the Universidad de Alcala de Henares, during which he taught first to fourth graders and wrote a thesis entitled “Standardizing Discrimination and Stalling Diversity: A Critical Examination of the LSAT.” In his free time, Raymond loves to fuse Spanish and Asian cuisines, go to museums, and eat, eat, eat.
