Marsha Chien L’10

Marsha currently works as a Managing Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division of the Washington State Attorney General’s Office. At the Civil Rights Division, Marsha has worked on litigation challenging the Muslim travel ban, the repeal of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s practice of conducting immigration arrests at state courthouses, and the failure of prison detention centers to pay the minimum wage to detainee workers. Prior to joining the Attorney General’s Office, Marsha was a Skadden Fellow and Staff Attorney for Legal Aid at Work in San Francisco, and clerked for the Honorable Marsha J. Pechman in the Western District of Washington. During law school, Marsha was active in the Transnational Law Clinic, the Unemployment Law Clinic, and volunteered with Friends of Farmworkers. Marsha spent her law school summers at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and California Rural Legal Assistance. Together, these experiences provided Marsha with insight into how our governments and laws shape the world and highlighted the structures that must be changed to create a more equal and just society. Marsha is happy to discuss public service with any Penn students, especially those interested in civil rights litigation.
