Michael Dunham

Michael Dunnam graduated with an electrical engineering degree from Brown University in 1984. Before and during law school at George Washington University, Michael worked in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office as a patent examiner in the art of color television. Michael left the USPTO in 1986 to join the firm Cushman Darby & Cushman as a patent agent.  Upon graduation from law school in 1989, Michael joined Woodcock Washburn LLP, where he became a partner in 1998.

In the late 1990s, Michael served on the board of directors of a privately held telephone operator systems business, where he helped lead the company while it underwent a transition in leadership giving him valuable business experience. Michael has been active in the American Intellectual Property Law Association for many years and is currently vice-chair of the Electronics and Computer Law Section of the AIPLA and a member of the AIPLA’s Japan delegation for the IP in Japan committee. Michael also previously served on the Board of Directors of the Philadelphia Intellectual Property Law Association.

Michael’s work primarily focuses on electronics, computer software, the Internet, business methods, telephony, video, lasers, and medical electronics, such as magnetic resonance imaging technology.

Michael teaches a course entitled IP in Business at Temple University Law School, is active in startup and angel network organizations, and is a frequent speaker on topics of intellectual property law. 

Michael is also the current President of the Philadelphia Curling Club and the coach of his sons’ 2013 Men’s Curling Junior Nationals bronze medal winning curling rink.
