Aadika Singh L’17

Before law school, Aadika Singh was the policy associate for Rights Working Group (RWG), a coalition of more than 350 local, state and national organizations working in the areas of immigrant rights, national security, and criminal justice. She furthered the coalition’s national anti-racial profiling campaign through administrative and legislative advocacy, which included garnering support for the End Racial Profiling Act and curbing federal immigration enforcement and national security programs that threatened due process and equal protection rights. Aadika also represented the coalition in hearings before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights and directed RWG’s efforts during the United Nations (UN) Universal Periodic Review of the U.S. and the UN review of U.S. compliance with the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR)—efforts which significantly increased pressure on the Obama White House to tackle the racial profiling problem in the United States. In 2012, she was a member of the U.S. Human Rights Network’s national task force on the ICCPR.

Prior to her experience at RWG, Aadika served in the Human Rights Program of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), researching domestic human rights violations related to national security and immigration policy. She supported advocacy around the ACLU’s monitoring of the proceedings at the Guantanamo military commissions and impact litigation including David, et al. v. Signal International, LLC, et al., a case filed on behalf of more than 500 Indian men trafficked into the United States and forced into involuntary servitude. During law school, Aadika interned with Ranking Member Senator Patrick Leahy’s Judiciary Committee Team, the U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division, the ACLU of Michigan, and the ACLU National Prison Project.

After graduation, Aadika will clerk for Michigan Supreme Court Justice Bridget Mary McCormack (2017-2018), the Honorable Gerald A. McHugh on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania (2018-2019), and the Honorable Theodore A. McKee on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit (2019-2020). After clerking, she plans to continue her career as a civil rights advocate through impact litigation and legislative advocacy.
