Elizabeth Levitan L’17

Elizabeth Levitan started with the Youth Advocacy Foundation’s EdLaw Project as a Skadden Fellow in September 2017. Ms. Levitan’s work at the EdLaw Project has focused on representing juvenile court involved and incarcerated youth in special education and school discipline matters. In addition to her direct representation of youth, Ms. Levitan’s work consists of advising and training members of the Massachusetts delinquency and child welfare bar, parents, and community members on special education and school discipline matters. Additionally, as a member of numerous coalitions composed of community organizers and legal service agencies, Ms. Levitan advocates for systemic change to end the funneling of minority and low-income youth from schools into the juvenile and criminal legal systems. Ms. Levitan graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 2017. During law school she founded the Penn Law Youth Advocacy Project, which provides mitigation and reentry support to young people being charged in the adult criminal justice system, and interned with the Committee for Public Counsel’s Youth Advocacy and Children and Family Law Divisions. She is the recipient of the University of Pennsylvania Law School’s Benjamin Jones Award for Humanity in Law, and the Penn Law Toll Public Interest Center’s Excellence in Leadership Award. She is currently a member of the Boston Bar Association’s Public Interested Leadership Program and is admitted to practice before the Federal District Court for the District of Massachusetts. She earned her B.A. from Haverford College in 2011.
