Penn Law Mock Trial Association

The Mock Trial Association offers Penn Law students an opportunity to learn and practice trial advocacy skills in a live setting. Recently, our competitors have made the regional finals for some of the largest competitions in the country, and placed at several more throughout the season. PLMTA members compete at tournaments throughout the country, and have traveled to New York City, Washington D.C., Texas, and Puerto Rico in recent years to face off against some of the best teams nationwide.

For over a decade, PLMTA has hosted an annual intramural competition where Penn Law students can form teams and compete to have their names inscribed on the Englert Cup. Training sessions, held weekly each fall, are run by adjunct professor and practicing litigator Bob Englert.

Our program is designed to refine important litigation skills, including delivering opening statements and closing arguments, employing the Rules of Evidence, and cultivating a strong courtroom presence.

PLMTA is proud of our strong alumni network, and dozens of former PLMTA members return each year to help judge the intramural competition.

If you are a current student interested in participating in external tournaments or would like to learn more about PLMTA please reach out to one of our Co-Presidents, Greg Burton (gfburton@pennlaw.upenn.edu) or George Zindel (gzindel@pennlaw.upenn.edu)
