Amal Sethi

Bio

Amal Sethi is Doctoral Candidate in Law at the University of Pennsylvania where he researches on democracy, courts, and constitutions. Prior to commencing his Doctorate, he also obtained a Masters in Laws from the University of Pennsylvania. During his time at Penn, he has been awarded numerous scholarships and fellowships including being a Legal Writing Fellow and being named as a Salzburg Cutler Fellow for demonstrating exceptional promise in international and comparative law.

Over the years, he has worked, taught and written on topics across a gamut of social, political and legal issues. Amal has been involved in several capacities with different governmental and inter-governmental agencies ranging from USAID and the US Department of Commerce to The World Bank, UNESCO, UNDP, UN Women, OHCHR and The SDG Fund. He has advised sovereign governments on constitution-making and at international courts. Currently, Amal also serves on the board of the non-profit Dagar-Pathway which works towards prisoner rehabilitation.

Before Penn, Amal completed his Bachelor of Laws from Government Law College (Mumbai) where he graduated as a recipient of the Nivedita Nathany Award for Academic Excellence and Leadership. He also hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Rights from The National Law School of India University (NLSIU, Bangalore) and a Post Graduate Diploma in International Humanitarian Law from The National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR, Hyderabad).
