Stefanie Ramirez L’19

After noticing the inequities within the San Antonio area education system, Stefanie knew something had to be done. As a freshman at St. Mary’s University, she realized that she needed to position herself at the intersection of law, politics, and education. Her pursuits led her to internships with the Office of (then) Mayor Julian Castro and the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office. While at the Mayor’s Office, Stefanie worked to bring college awareness to the citizens of San Antonio through SA2020’s Destination College initiative. Stefanie went on to graduate summa cum laude from St. Mary’s University with a B.A. in Political Science and Interdisciplinary Reading. After graduating, she remained in San Antonio as a Teach For America (TFA) corps member. As a fourth-grade teacher in San Antonio Independent School District, she was able to gain a deeper understanding of the systemic issues plaguing our current education system.

Currently, Stefanie is pursuing a joint J.D. and M.S.Ed. Education Policy degree to gain the fundamental tools necessary to ensure every child receives a high-quality education. She believes that high quality education should be the standard, not the exception, for students everywhere and is hoping to help make that a reality. In pursuit of this, during her 1L summer Stefanie interned at Bizchut in Jerusalem, Israel, where she researched inclusive education, which was used to develop Bizchut’s policy position. During her 2L summer, she worked in the Disabilities Law Program at the Community Legal Aid Society, Inc. in Delaware where she worked on issues around social security and equal access to services for those with physical and mental health issues. In her spare time, Stefanie enjoys spending time with her cats and binge-watching “The Office.”
