Shaunee Morgan L’19

Shaunee Morgan’s work has focused on infusing racial justice lenses into issues of (im)migration. Prior to law school, Shaunee worked as a legal advocate at the Urban Justice Center’s Safety Net Project representing food stamp and welfare recipients in administrative hearings. As a part of a citywide taskforce, she identified and helped to close gaps in city policy and accessibility to benefits for LGBTQI+ individuals and immigrants. She also served on the Volunteer Advisory Committee of Citizenship Now!, an organization providing free immigration services to communities in and around New York City.

During her time at Penn Law, she has served on the executive boards of the International Refugee Assistance Project, the Journal of Law and Social Change, and the Black Law Students’ Association. She also spent the summer after her 1L year working with the Refugee Law Project in Mbarara Uganda and the following summer working with the Latin America and Caribbean project at Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights.

Shaunee received her undergraduate degree in political science from the University of Pennsylvania, where she focused her studies on migration and the creation of identity within the Black Diaspora. She then received a M.S.W. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Shaunee is a former all-American track and field athlete who enjoys Afro-futuristic science fiction and soapmaking. She is originally from the parish of St. Mary, Jamaica.
