Emma Morgenstern L’19

Emma is currently an Immigrant Justice Corps Fellow working at Volunteers of Legal Service, a non-profit in New York City, providing free immigration legal services. At Penn Law, Emma worked to gain skills in migration law while focusing on issues of gender and systemic inequality. She was a student legal representative in the Transnational Legal Clinic, representing clients working to gain status in the United States. She also served as Executive Editor on the Journal of Law and Social Change, Co-Director of the International Refugee Assistance Project, a board member of Penn Law Palestine Solidarity, and Co-Chair of Penn’s National Lawyers Guild chapter. She spent her summers working with Reprieve, a legal NGO in London, UK, and the Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project (ILAP) in Portland, Maine.

Prior to attending Penn Law, Emma graduated from Tufts University with majors in International Relations and French. She then earned a master’s degree in Human Rights from the London School of Economics, writing a dissertation focused on the employment of human rights and feminist rhetoric in women’s NGOs in Palestine and Israel. Emma also worked as an immigration paralegal, spent time in Ramallah, Palestine where she helped craft the gender advocacy strategy for Sharek Youth Forum, a local NGO, and worked with ILAP in Maine. Emma remains passionate about providing high quality free legal services to those in need while staying alert to and advocating for the demise of systemic inequality and oppression.
