Dissertation Status

Annual Progress Reports

An S.J.D. candidate is required to report, no less frequently than annually, on or before May 1 of each year, to his or her primary advisor concerning the candidate's progress toward completing the dissertation. The report shall be in form and detail reasonably satisfactory to the primary advisor. The primary advisor shall distribute copies of the annual report to each member of the candidate's dissertation committee and to each member of the Graduate Studies Committee, and the Registrar.

Time for Completion of Dissertation

An S.J.D. candidate normally will be expected to complete his or her dissertation within the three years following admission to the program. In exceptional circumstances, the Graduate Studies Committee, with the approval of a candidate's dissertation committee, may extend this time for up to two additional years.
