Nancy Nord

Nancy A. Nord is now with OFW Law after completing an eight-year term as a Commissioner on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, serving from 2005 through 2013. Ms. Nord was Acting Chairman of the CPSC from July 2006 until June 2009.

Prior to joining the Commission, Ms. Nord held a number of legal positions in the federal government and the private sector. She served as the General Counsel of the White House Council on Environmental Quality and as counsel to the Energy and Commerce Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives. In the private sector, she was the Director of Federal Affairs for the Eastman Kodak Company and Director of Consumer Affairs for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. She was the founding Executive Director of the Association of Corporate Counsel, representing attorneys in corporate law departments, serving in that capacity for over eight years. As Executive Director, she interacted with senior corporate legal officers and their legal departments on a variety of substantive law and management issues.

In her practice at OFW, Ms. Nord counsels companies on enforcement and compliance policies and practices of the CPSC and related safety issues, and works with companies to design and implement effective compliance programs. She also works with corporations, industry coalitions, trade associations and nonprofit organizations, guiding them through the legislative and regulatory aspects of government advocacy campaigns that focus on environment, consumer products, trade and manufacturing.

Ms. Nord serves on the Advisory Board of the Legal Center of the National Federation of Independent Business which focuses on legal issues of special importance to small businesses. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the American Fireworks Standards Laboratory which writes safety standards for the fireworks industry. She is also on the Advisory Board of the Alliance for Bangladesh Worker Safety which represents garment manufacturers and major retailers to improve factory working conditions in Bangladesh. Since leaving the CPSC, she has been active in speaking and writing on issues dealing with safety regulation and corporate compliance. Ms. Nord is a native of South Dakota. She received her B.A. from the University of Nebraska and her J.D., with honors, from George Washington University.
