Abby Samuels L’19

Abby is currently a Staff Attorney at Community Legal Aid Society in her home state of Delaware. She works in Community Legal Aid’s Medical-Legal Partnership unit, providing civil legal services to individuals referred through several healthcare partners throughout the state. Abby’s work is primarily focused on serving Delawareans who have a mental health condition or substance use disorder, and have an unmet civil legal need related to housing, immigration, family law, or public benefits. Abby’s passion for legal aid work grew from her work as a paralegal at Community Legal Aid, where she spent two years working before law school. During law school, Abby explored that passion by taking both the Civil Practice and Child Advocacy Clinics. She worked with the Criminal Record Expungement Project, and spent summers interning at Legal Aid in New York City, and Community Legal Services in Philly. Those experiences led Abby back to where she started - Community Legal Aid in Delaware. Abby learned during law school that working in a community that she knows well and cares about deeply is an important part of being a legal aid lawyer. She is excited to be working once again in the place where she was born and raised, and at the organization where her passion for legal aid work first began.
