Dermot Delude-Dix L’23

Dermot comes to Penn Law after spending a decade with UNITE HERE, the hospitality workers’ union. Dermot graduated from Swarthmore College where he majored in philosophy. As an undergraduate student, Dermot was first introduced to the labor movement as a volunteer for the Kaolin Workers Union, an independent farmworker union in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. After moving to Philadelphia in 2010, he began his work with UNITE HERE, organizing low wage workers at casinos and hotels in the Philadelphia area.

In 2016, Dermot became a full-time researcher for UNITE HERE Local 274 in Philadelphia, responsible for leading the local’s lobbying efforts, tracking real estate development in the hospitality industry, and developing campaign strategies for the union. As a law student, Dermot is interested in labor law and workers’ rights, predatory lending and the financialization of our economy, and cooperative ownership models.

Dermot lives in South Philadelphia where he is an elected committee person and treasurer of the local Democratic Party’s second ward. He enjoys reading, trips to the beach, and outdoor gatherings of less than 25 people.
