April 8The University announced Ted Ruger, Dean and Bernard G. Segal Professor of Law has agreed to extend his tenure as Dean of the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School until June 30, 2023. The news comes just as the Law School climbed a full position up to #6 on the US News 2022 “Best Law Schools” list.

As we embark on Black History Month, we are pleased to pay tribute to the legacy of Dr. Sadie T.M. Alexander, the first Black woman to graduate from the Law School, by launching three new full tuition scholarships created in her honor. Last semester, Dean Ted Ruger expressed the intention to create these scholarships thanks to the suggestion of Penn’s Black Law Students Association (BLSA).

September 9The Gittis Center for Clinical Legal Studies offers more than 15 externships in addition to the nine clinical offerings, and students may also design their own externships.

September 2Wednesday, September 2, the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School, in partnership with Keep Our Republic, a non-partisan non-profit composed of citizens, bipartisan former officials and civic leaders who are committed to ensuring the smooth and regular operation of our electoral system, hosted a virtual symposium during which a panel of experts from different fields will assess the aforementioned risks to, and potential problems with, the election process, and propose practical responses to mitigate those risks and shortfalls.

August 24Osagie O. Imasogie has been appointed Chair of the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School’s Board of Advisors, effective January 1, 2021. Current Chair Perry Golkin, for whom the Law School’s Golkin Hall is named, is rotating out of the position and will remain an active member of the Board of Advisors.

November 14In conjunction with Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main, Penn Law launched the Friedrich Kübler Scholarship for students who have received, or will be receiving, their first state’s examination grade following their studies in law at Goethe. Successful recipients of this scholarship will have demonstrated a high level of academic achievement and/or professional experience in law.
